UP Politics: CM Yogi Targets SP in Etawah, Calls for End of ‘Saifai Syndicate’ Ahead of Elections

Political activity has intensified in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections, with major parties beginning to shape public narratives through sharp political attacks and campaign messaging. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched a strong offensive against the Samajwadi Party during his visit to Etawah, a region considered a key political base of the SP. Addressing supporters, CM Yogi accused the previous SP governments of allowing a system where criminals and mafias operated freely. He claimed that the current government has taken strict action against criminal elements and presented this as a symbol of a changing Uttar Pradesh. He said the state has moved away from an era of crime, riots, and instability toward development and security. Targeting the political influence associated with Saifai, the hometown of the late Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav, Yogi alleged that a “syndicate” had controlled resources and opportunities in the past. He also praised Mulayam Singh Yadav’s grassroots political connect but criticized what he described as later concentration of power. Etawah has remained a significant battleground in Uttar Pradesh politics and has traditionally been associated with the Samajwadi Party. In the 2022 Assembly elections, the SP won two of the district’s three seats, while the BJP secured one. With the next election approaching, both parties are expected to intensify their outreach in the region. The Samajwadi Party has also continued to challenge the BJP government on various issues, making Etawah a crucial political centre. While the BJP aims to expand its influence in the SP stronghold, the opposition party will look to retain its traditional support base. The coming months are likely to witness increased political campaigning and sharper exchanges between the two major parties.
