In a strong crackdown against electricity theft, the Uttar Pradesh administration carried out a surprise late-night inspection drive in Sambhal district. District Magistrate Rajendra Pensiya and Superintendent of Police Krishna Bishnoi personally led the drive, visiting multiple localities after midnight following repeated complaints of illegal power connections. Accompanied by police personnel and electricity department teams, the senior officials inspected electricity meters in narrow lanes and residential areas. Several meters were checked to verify ownership, connection status, and possible tampering. Officials also interacted with local residents on the spot, questioning them about power usage and illegal hookups. The drive continued till early morning, highlighting the administration’s zero-tolerance approach towards power theft. Authorities stated that electricity theft causes heavy losses to the government and disrupts supply for honest consumers. As per rules, those found guilty can face strict action, including hefty fines and imprisonment. Police presence was increased during the operation to prevent resistance and maintain law and order. The administration has made it clear that such surprise drives will continue across the district to curb illegal activities. Uttar Pradesh officials reiterated that any form of electricity theft will not be tolerated and warned violators to regularise their connections or face legal consequences.
