Unity Day: PM Modi Slams Congress for Weakening National Spirit, Calls for Renewed Commitment to National Integrity

On the occasion of National Unity Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp attack on previous governments, accusing them of endangering national security for the sake of vote-bank politics. He said that while earlier regimes ignored major threats, his government has taken decisive steps to confront them. Modi emphasized that India must rise above political and ideological divides, stressing that diversity of thought is welcome in democracy, but not “diversity of hearts.” He accused the Congress of disrespecting leaders like Sardar Patel, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, Subhas Chandra Bose, Jayaprakash Narayan, and Ram Manohar Lohia, and of fostering political untouchability. Referring to Vande Mataram, he said that while the British failed to divide India’s unity, Congress succeeded in doing so by removing parts of the national song on religious grounds. He called on citizens to reaffirm their commitment to unity and respect for the nation’s collective spirit.
