U’khand: Stones hurled at UP roadways bus with people on board, driver assaulted

Rudrapur, Apr 2 (PTI): Two motorcycle-borne men Uttarakhand’s Udham Singh Nagar district allegedly assaulted a Uttar Pradesh Roadways bus driver and hurled stones at the vehicle after a dispute over overtaking, terrifying passengers seated inside, police said on Thursday.

The incident occurred on National Highway-74 on Wednesday afternoon when the driver of a bus, travelling from Tanakpur to Haridwar, got into an argument with some youths riding a motorcycle over overtaking, they said.

The police said that when the bus reached Gadarpur, the motorcycle-borne men intercepted the vehicle, abused the driver and allegedly assaulted him. People present at the spot intervened and pacified the situation.

However, the accused later chased the bus along with their friends and again tried to stop it near Madiya Ratna, police said.

When the driver did not halt the vehicle, the youths allegedly pelted stones at the bus, breaking its window panes and endangering the lives of the passengers seated inside, they said.

The driver then drove the bus to the Doraha outpost and informed the police about the incident.

Some suspects have been detained and are being questioned, the police said.

Kotwali in-charge Sanjay Pathak said a case has been registered on the basis of the driver’s complaint and strict action will be taken against the accused. PTI COR DPT NB NB NB
