Uddhav Thackeray in Delhi: Slams Government Over Protest Handling, Says Democracy Needs Dialogue

Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray reached Delhi and launched a sharp attack on the government over the handling of protests and public demands. Addressing the issue, Thackeray said that dialogue and discussions are essential parts of democracy and criticised what he described as a refusal to listen to people’s concerns. Referring to past political examples, Thackeray said previous governments had engaged with protesters and opposition voices during challenging situations. He argued that democratic governance requires communication between the government and citizens rather than one-sided decisions. Thackeray also raised concerns over the treatment of protesters, particularly women and young students, alleging that their handling during demonstrations was inappropriate. He questioned whether such actions aligned with Indian cultural values and said that children raising concerns about their future should not be ignored. The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader emphasised that issues affecting students and the public require sensitivity and discussion. He questioned the government’s approach and said that decisions impacting the future of the country’s youth should involve listening to their voices. His remarks came amid a larger political confrontation over ongoing protests and the government’s response to various demands. Opposition parties have been criticising the administration’s handling of demonstrations, while the ruling side has defended security measures and law enforcement actions. Thackeray’s comments are expected to add further momentum to the political debate in Delhi, with both opposition and government leaders continuing to present contrasting views on protests, public dialogue, and governance. The remarks also highlight the growing focus on the role of democratic engagement during periods of public unrest.
