Student Protest Update: Congress MP KC Venugopal Moves Adjournment Motion Over NEET Row

The political deadlock over the NEET UG paper leak issue continues, with Congress MP K.C. Venugopal submitting an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha over the alleged paper leak and police action during the July 20 protest at Jantar Mantar. The government has maintained that it is ready for discussion but wants it to happen under parliamentary rules. The opposition, however, continues to demand accountability and questions why the government did not engage with students earlier. During a debate, opposition leaders accused the government of delaying dialogue and alleged that students’ concerns were addressed only after political pressure increased. The government rejected these claims, stating that it has always engaged with youth and that opposition parties are attempting to politicise the issue. BJP representatives highlighted meetings between government leaders and student representatives, while opposition voices questioned whether police action and clashes could be considered “direct engagement.” Both sides continued to trade allegations, with the focus remaining on student demands, parliamentary discussion, and accountability in the NEET controversy.
