SIR Revision Ends: UP Voter Revision Sparks Political Row as 2.89 Crore Names Get Deleted

A major update has emerged from Uttar Pradesh as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list concluded on December 26 at midnight. According to official data, names of nearly 2.89 crore voters have been removed for not submitting forms within the deadline. The highest number of deletions occurred in Lucknow and Ghaziabad, accounting for nearly 30% of the total removed names. Meanwhile, only around two lakh new voters were added in the last 14 days. The Election Commission has clarified that no further extension will be given, and the final voter list draft will be released on December 31. Political reactions have intensified, with SP chief Akhilesh Yadav claiming that 85–90% of deleted voters belonged to the BJP’s support base. The BJP has rejected these claims, stating deletions were due to duplicate entries.
