Security arrangements: Amarnath Yatra 2026 Begins Amid Tight Security and High Devotion

The Amarnath Yatra has officially begun with the first convoy of pilgrims departing from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu at 4:00 AM, flagged off by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha. The 57-day pilgrimage to the holy cave of Baba Barfani has started amid tight security arrangements across Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces, including the J&K Police, CRPF, and Army, have been deployed in large numbers along both the Baltal and Pahalgam routes to ensure the safety of devotees. The entire valley has taken on a devotional atmosphere with chants of “Bam Bam Bhole” echoing through camps and routes. Pilgrims traveling via the Baltal route are scheduled to have darshan from July 3, while those using the Pahalgam route will reach the shrine on July 4. Authorities have also arranged transport, accommodation, and security convoys for smooth movement. However, challenges have been reported at the Pahalgam base camp, where large crowds have gathered for on-the-spot registration. Many devotees complained about confusion, long queues, and lack of clear instructions regarding token distribution and registration procedures. Despite logistical issues, the enthusiasm among pilgrims remains high as thousands continue to arrive for the sacred journey.
