Tension escalated into violence outside a mosque in Jaipur’s rural Chomu area in the early hours of Friday after a dispute erupted over the removal of stones near the religious site. According to police officials, the incident occurred around 4:00 am when authorities attempted to intervene and prevent a gathering from escalating the situation. Police claim that members of a particular community began pelting stones after being stopped, leading to injuries to nearly half a dozen police personnel deployed at the spot. In response, security forces were compelled to resort to a lathi charge to disperse the crowd and restore order. Tear gas shells were also fired to control the situation as tensions continued to rise. The violence caused panic in the area, prompting authorities to impose strict security measures. As a preventive step to curb the spread of rumours and maintain law and order, mobile internet services in the area were suspended for 24 hours. Additional police forces were deployed, and the situation is currently reported to be under control. Senior officials are monitoring the situation closely, while an investigation has been initiated to determine the exact sequence of events and identify those involved in the violence. Authorities have appealed to residents to maintain peace and cooperate with law enforcement agencies.
