In a major crackdown ahead of the NEET examination, police in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district have detained a youth accused of operating a fake question paper distribution racket through online platforms. Acting on intelligence inputs, law enforcement officials conducted a raid at the suspect’s residence and seized multiple digital devices, including a mobile phone, along with NEET preparation materials and documents linked to the alleged network. The accused, identified as Akash, is suspected of circulating fraudulent claims regarding the availability of NEET question papers through encrypted communication channels and proxy networks. According to preliminary findings, the accused allegedly used VPN-based access and operated a Telegram channel reportedly named “Paper Mafia” to connect with aspirants and solicit money in exchange for promised access to exam content. Investigators stated that around 52 individuals were reportedly linked to the communication channel, and the probe is now focusing on tracing financial transactions, digital footprints and potential victims of the alleged fraud. Authorities are also examining whether any payments were actually collected and the extent of the network’s reach across coaching students. Officials emphasized that the alleged paper being circulated was entirely fake, and no breach of official examination material has been established so far. The case has prompted heightened vigilance across examination centers as security arrangements are being tightened ahead of the re-conducted NEET exam. Further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused acted alone or was part of a larger online fraud network.
