Prayagraj is witnessing an overwhelming surge of devotees today as the third major bathing festival of the Magh Mela is being observed on the auspicious occasion of Mauni Amavasya. Since the early hours of the morning, lakhs of pilgrims have been taking holy dips at the Sangam. According to official data, nearly 50 lakh devotees had completed their ritual bath by 4:00 AM, while authorities expect more than 3 crore pilgrims to take a dip by the end of the day. Despite intense cold, dense fog, and low visibility, the enthusiasm and faith of devotees remain unwavering. The Sangam Nose area is completely packed with pilgrims arriving from across the country. Security and administrative arrangements have been strengthened to manage the massive crowd. A 3.5-kilometer-long ghat has been developed, and teams from NDRF, SDRF, water police, and local administration are deployed on high alert. Deep-water barricading has been installed to prevent devotees from entering dangerous zones. Officials stated that cleanliness, crowd management, changing rooms, and sanitation facilities are being continuously monitored to ensure a safe and smooth bathing experience for all devotees throughout the day.
