Police have arrested Bappa Aditya Das Gupta, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) councillor from Ward No. 101 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, in connection with an alleged extortion case. The arrest comes shortly after the detention of TMC youth leader Sourav Ghosh, who is also accused in the same matter. As Das Gupta was being taken to the police station following his arrest, a group of people gathered at the spot and raised slogans of “chor chor” (“thief, thief”) against him. According to reports, both leaders are facing allegations of forcibly extorting money, leading to police action. The case has drawn attention due to the involvement of prominent members of the ruling party in West Bengal. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the allegations and are expected to question the accused further as part of the ongoing probe. The incident has sparked political discussion in the state over accountability and law enforcement.
