The political debate over the India–US trade deal has intensified, with sharp reactions from both the opposition and the government. Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh strongly criticized the agreement, calling it a “double blow” on the common people. He alleged that the deal would severely harm Indian farmers by opening the agricultural sector to American products, which could lead to cheaper imports and financial losses for millions of farmers. Singh also warned that if India reduces oil imports from Russia and increases purchases from the US, citizens may be forced to buy costlier fuel, adding to inflation. He termed the agreement a betrayal of farmers and accused the Modi government of acting under external pressure. On the other hand, the government defended the trade deal during the NDA Parliamentary Party meeting. Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that the agreement reflects India’s strategic patience and long-term vision. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said that under Modi’s leadership, India has signed Free Trade Agreements with 39 countries so far. NDA leaders hailed the reduction in tariffs under the India–US deal and described it as historic, expressing optimism that it will boost key sectors and strengthen India’s global economic standing.
