Political War Over Student Protest: Opposition Targets Government After Bihar AK-47 Firing Row

The political battle over student protests has intensified, with the opposition launching a major attack on the government over alleged police action in Delhi and Bihar. Opposition leaders are demanding answers on claims of pellet gun use in Delhi and firing during protests in Bihar’s Siwan, turning the issue into a major political flashpoint. The controversy began after a viral video allegedly showed an SIT constable, Abhishek Patel, firing an AK-47 during a student protest in Siwan. Police action followed, with the accused constable being suspended after an inquiry reportedly found the firing allegations to be valid. The development has given the opposition a fresh opportunity to target the government and demand accountability over the handling of student demonstrations. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi questioned the government over the alleged use of force, claiming that students protesting against examination irregularities faced excessive action. He demanded answers regarding arrests, FIRs, and the alleged use of weapons during protests. Other opposition leaders, including Tejashwi Yadav, Priyanka Gandhi, Dimple Yadav, and Pawan Khera, also raised concerns and sought accountability from the authorities. The BJP and NDA leaders, however, rejected the opposition’s allegations, accusing Rahul Gandhi and other leaders of spreading misleading information. BJP leaders argued that security personnel are authorized to carry weapons for maintaining law and order and questioned the political narrative around the incident. The controversy comes at a time when the government is introducing stricter measures against paper leaks and pushing examination reforms. While the government says it is working to protect students’ futures through stronger laws, the opposition continues to focus on alleged police excesses during student protests.
