POLITICAL UPDATE: CPI(M)-CPI Back Vijay, VCK Decision Now Key to Tamil Nadu Power Battle

Tamil Nadu’s high-voltage political drama may finally be heading toward a conclusion as the Communist Party of India (Marxist) and Communist Party of India have officially announced support for actor-turned-politician Vijay and his party TVK. However, despite this backing, Vijay still requires the support of two more MLAs to cross the majority mark in the Tamil Nadu Assembly. The focus has now shifted entirely to the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), whose two MLAs are expected to take a final decision today on whether to support TVK. If VCK extends support, Vijay’s path to becoming Chief Minister could become clear with a comfortable majority of 118 seats. According to the current numbers, TVK initially won 108 seats, but after Vijay retained only one constituency, the effective tally came down to 107. With the support of Congress’s five MLAs, the number rose to 112. Adding two MLAs each from CPI(M) and CPI takes the total to 116. VCK’s two MLAs could now push the alliance past the crucial majority mark of 117. The political crisis deepened after Governor R. N. Ravi reportedly refused to invite Vijay to form the government without proof of majority support. This triggered protests by TVK and Congress workers outside Raj Bhavan in Chennai. Meanwhile, speculation intensified after reports emerged that the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam(AIADMK) moved its MLAs to a Puducherry resort amid fears of political realignment. With emotions, protests, and intense negotiations dominating Tamil Nadu politics, all eyes are now on VCK’s final move that could decide the state’s next government.
