Parliament Watch: Monsoon Session Opens With Opposition Attack, Govt Calls for Constructive Debate

The first day of the Monsoon Session witnessed a heated political atmosphere as the government and opposition exchanged sharp remarks over key national issues. With both Houses of Parliament temporarily adjourned until 12:30 PM, political activity continued both inside and outside the Parliament complex. Samajwadi Party MP Dimple Yadav, along with party colleagues, marched toward Jantar Mantar to highlight concerns related to the NEET paper leak controversy and issues affecting students. Meanwhile, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi again, amid discussions over opposition coordination during the session. The ruling NDA defended the government’s approach, with JD(U) leader Sanjay Jha emphasizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for meaningful discussion and participation from opposition parties. He also responded to remarks surrounding youth representation in politics, stating that the government is focused on encouraging young people and addressing their aspirations. On the opposition side, Congress MP Ranjeet Ranjan criticized the government over several issues, including alleged paper leaks, ethanol blending concerns, the Ayodhya temple security controversy, and environmental concerns related to development projects. She demanded detailed discussions in Parliament and accountability from the government on matters affecting citizens. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the media before the session, urged lawmakers to participate in constructive debates and respect every voice and viewpoint. He stated that strong facts and arguments leave little space for disruption. The opening day reflected a sharp divide between the government and opposition, with both sides preparing to raise their priorities during the session. While the government emphasized dialogue and parliamentary discipline, opposition parties continued their strategy of pressing the ruling side on public issues through debates and demonstrations.
