Union Minister Giriraj Singh launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of disrespecting Parliament. The controversy centers around the term “Obodh Balak” (innocent child), reportedly used during a Rajya Sabha exchange, which triggered unprecedented disruptions in both Houses over the past four days. According to Singh, this incident marks a rare breakdown of parliamentary decorum, where the opposition’s conduct effectively stalled proceedings. Giriraj Singh criticized Rahul Gandhi for acting as though he is the “Leader of Parliament” rather than the Leader of the Opposition, asserting that such behavior is detrimental to democratic norms. Singh emphasized that the Lok Sabha witnessed a historic disruption when Prime Minister Narendra Modi could not deliver his scheduled speech, and similar tensions are visible today in Rajya Sabha during discussions on the President’s address. The minister termed the sustained disruptions over the “Obodh Balak” controversy as a regrettable episode in parliamentary history, noting that even veteran members have expressed concern over the obstructionist approach. While opposition protests are a regular part of democratic debate, Singh highlighted that the recent conduct crossed acceptable limits, turning the parliamentary machinery effectively into a standstill.
