Relentless monsoon rains have severely disrupted transportation across Mumbai, with flight operations, suburban rail services, and road traffic bearing the brunt of the adverse weather. According to the latest information, at least 17 flights have been cancelled, while 217 flights are operating behind schedule due to poor weather conditions. Several incoming flights have also been diverted to alternate airports as low visibility and persistent rainfall made landing operations difficult at Mumbai Airport. Heavy rainfall has also affected the city’s suburban railway network. Train services towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) were temporarily halted between Bhandup and Kanjurmarg after a plastic object became entangled in the overhead electric wire. Multiple local trains remained stranded on the tracks for over 20 minutes while railway personnel worked to clear the obstruction and restore services. Drone visuals from Bhandup, Kanjurmarg, and nearby areas showed extremely poor visibility due to intense rainfall. Although traffic continued to move on parts of the Eastern Express Highway, authorities reported that many residents chose to stay indoors as weather conditions deteriorated. In Nalasopara, several roads were submerged under waist-deep water, leaving commuters stranded and disrupting normal life. Residents questioned whether the widespread flooding was solely the result of heavy rainfall or a consequence of inadequate monsoon preparedness and poor drainage infrastructure. The continuous downpour has once again exposed Mumbai’s vulnerability to monsoon flooding, with transportation networks facing significant disruptions across the city. Authorities continue to monitor the situation as forecasts indicate that heavy rainfall may persist, potentially causing further delays to air, rail, and road traffic.
