Heavy overnight monsoon rainfall caused widespread waterlogging across several parts of Mumbai, disrupting daily life and exposing shortcomings in civic preparedness. Low-lying areas including Andheri Subway, Sakinaka, Malad East, Kandivali, Sion, Matunga, Dadar, and Navi Mumbai witnessed severe flooding, while local train services ran around 15–20 minutes behind schedule due to waterlogged tracks. In Dadar TT, a massive tree uprooted and fell onto a vehicle around 5 a.m., severely damaging the car and injuring the driver. The incident blocked a major road for hours, raising questions about the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) claims regarding pre-monsoon tree trimming and safety inspections. Several metro stations, roads, residential areas, and small businesses were also affected as rainwater entered homes and shops. Authorities deployed pumps to remove water from key locations such as Andheri Subway, but commuters continued to face delays and difficulties. The India Meteorological Department has forecast continued rainfall in Mumbai and surrounding regions over the next three days. Critics have accused the BMC of inadequate drainage maintenance despite substantial pre-monsoon budgets and preparations.
