Heavy monsoon rains have triggered flash floods, landslides, and widespread disruption across Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, and Himachal Pradesh. In Rajouri, continuous rainfall caused rivers and seasonal streams to overflow, inundating low-lying areas and damaging homes, shops, vehicles, and agricultural land. Fast-moving floodwaters swept away everything in their path, while the India Meteorological Department has warned of further heavy rainfall. In Ladakh’s Kargil district, a flash flood in the Batakhar stream deposited large amounts of debris on the Kargil–Zanskar Highway, forcing authorities to suspend traffic and issue a travel advisory until the road is cleared. Road maintenance teams have begun restoration work to reopen the route. Meanwhile, in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district, sudden flooding in the Basrang area blocked the Sangla–Chitkul road after mud, rocks, and boulders covered the highway. The district administration has advised residents and tourists to avoid travel and stay away from rivers and landslide-prone areas until weather conditions improve.
