Monsoon Crisis Deepens: Flood Alerts in J&K, Mumbai and Delhi-NCR Face Waterlogging

The impact of heavy monsoon rainfall across multiple regions of India, causing rising water levels, flooding risks, and disruption to daily life. In Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district, rising water levels in the Chenab River prompted authorities to open the gates of the Salal Dam as a precautionary measure. Alerts were issued for downstream areas, with people advised to stay away from riverbanks. In Maharashtra’s Nalasopara, continuous rainfall caused severe waterlogging for several days, affecting railway station areas and local residents, although Western Railway services reportedly returned to normal. Delhi-NCR also witnessed heavy rain, with Ghaziabad’s Khoda Colony facing severe water accumulation, making travel difficult for school students and office commuters. Meanwhile, in Gujarat’s Surat, rising levels of the Tapi River increased flood concerns in several low-lying areas. The report states that water levels in affected neighborhoods have gradually reduced after rainfall decreased, but authorities continue monitoring vulnerable zones and carrying out drainage operations.
