Delhi Police on Tuesday produced Indian Youth Congress (IYC) National President Uday Bhanu Chib before the Patiala House Courts following his arrest in connection with the “shirtless protest” at the India AI Impact Summit 2026. Chib was taken into custody around 4:30 AM after nearly 20 hours of questioning at the Tilak Marg police station. The prosecution has invoked several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including charges of criminal conspiracy, promoting enmity (Section 196), and assaulting public servants. Police allege the protest at Bharat Mandapam, where activists displayed “Compromised PM” slogans against the India-US trade deal, was a pre-planned conspiracy designed to malign India’s global image. While the police sought custody for further interrogation and to confront Chib with seven other arrested accused, Congress leaders have slammed the move as “dictatorial,” defending the protest as a peaceful democratic right. The court’s decision on his custody remains the focal point of the ongoing legal proceedings.
