A portion of a railway overbridge on National Highway 45 (NH-45) suddenly collapsed, raising serious concerns over construction quality and public safety. Fortunately, no vehicles were passing through the affected stretch at the time of the incident, preventing what could have been a major tragedy. Eyewitnesses described the damaged section as resembling ground subsidence caused by an earthquake. The bridge is now considered structurally unsafe. Notably, the overbridge was constructed above a nearby railway crossing, making its stability crucial for both road and rail traffic. In December, another section of the same bridge had partially collapsed. Since then, traffic had been restricted to a single operational lane, while repair work was underway on the damaged side. Reports indicate that the overbridge was built only about four years ago, ruling out age as a primary factor. Large cracks on the roadway and repeated structural failures are pointing toward the possible use of substandard construction materials and poor engineering oversight. Authorities are expected to investigate the matter.
