At the Ideas of India Summit 2026 hosted by ABP Network, industrialist Mayank Agarwal shared candid views on the rapidly evolving global order amid escalating geopolitical tensions. Referring to the unfolding Iran–US confrontation and wider instability across the Gulf, Agarwal emphasized that while the world is not witnessing a complete reset, it is undeniably undergoing a strategic recalibration. He argued that geopolitics is increasingly being shaped by geo-economics — control over oil, energy corridors, semiconductors, rare minerals, data, and advanced technology. According to him, power today lies less in supplying the cheapest goods and more in commanding critical supply chains. China, he noted, remains the dominant force in global manufacturing, holding commanding market shares across key sectors, making full decoupling unrealistic for most economies. However, Agarwal highlighted the global shift toward “de-risking” and the China-plus-one strategy as a significant opportunity for India. He pointed to India’s democratic stability, scale, and policy alignment as competitive advantages in attracting long-term manufacturing investments. While acknowledging that India cannot replicate China’s scale overnight, he stressed that the goal should not be competition for dominance but strategic capacity building aligned with India’s own growth needs. On manufacturing challenges, Agarwal said India must focus on faster policy execution, reducing friction between investment and regulation, scaling cost-efficient production, and embracing technology integration. He underscored that India’s future growth story remains strong if reforms translate swiftly to ground-level implementation. Concluding, he maintained that India should avoid unnecessary geopolitical entanglements while strengthening its economic positioning in a fragmented global landscape.
