‘I Love Mohammed’ Row Spreads Beyond Kanpur, Protests, Violence And Bulldozer Action In UP & Uttarakhand

The controversy over “I Love Mohammed” banners that began in Kanpur has now escalated across several cities in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, sparking communal tension and tough police action. In Moradabad’s Dhakia area, hundreds of people from the Muslim community marched late at night holding posters and banners, despite restrictions and the absence of official permission for processions. The demonstration was reportedly organized in protest against the Kanpur incident that occurred during Barawafat. In Kashipur, Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand, the unrest turned violent as a crowd of nearly 400 people clashed with police, damaged government vehicles, and blocked roads. Authorities swiftly imposed prohibitory measures, while joint teams from the municipal corporation, police, and electricity department cut 17 illegal power connections and initiated demolition drives against unauthorized structures. Several accused have been arrested, including alleged mastermind Nadeem Akhtar, while more than 500 unidentified persons have been booked under serious charges.Police also released visuals of injured protesters in custody, underscoring the strict action being taken. Officials say interrogations are ongoing to uncover the wider network behind the violence. Meanwhile, opposition parties have accused the government of mishandling the situation, while the administration insists it will not tolerate attempts to disturb law and order.
