A deadly natural disaster has struck the Caribbean nation of Jamaica as Hurricane Melissa wreaks havoc with winds reaching up to 295 kmph, marking the most powerful storm to hit the island in 174 years. The hurricane has left cities submerged, vehicles swept away, and homes destroyed, painting scenes of complete devastation. At least 10 people have lost their lives, while over 6 lakh residents have been evacuated to safer locations. Jamaica’s capital, Kingston, appears deserted as heavy rain and violent gusts continue to batter the region. Prior to hitting Jamaica, Melissa had already caused destruction in Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Authorities are calling it the strongest cyclone of 2025, leaving the Caribbean islands on high alert as rescue operations continue.
