Global Watch: Putin Arrives in India Today for First Post-Ukraine-War Visit Amid Heavy Security

Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to arrive in New Delhi this evening for a two-day India visit — his first trip to the country since the Russia-Ukraine war began. Upon landing at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Putin will head directly to the Prime Minister’s residence for a private meeting with PM Narendra Modi, followed by a special dinner organised in his honour. Putin will be staying at Delhi’s ITC Maurya, where massive security preparations have been completed. The capital has been placed under an extensive five-layer security grid, combining the efforts of NSG commandos, SPG teams, Delhi Police, Russian presidential security, AI-enabled surveillance systems, drone monitoring, and top-level snipers positioned at key points. Visuals from outside ITC Maurya show heavy barricading, dog squads, heightened checking, and numerous welcome hoardings displaying “Welcome to India, Vladimir Putin.” Russian security personnel have already taken charge of the inner layer of hotel protection. Sources confirm that Putin’s delegation will accompany him for crucial bilateral meetings scheduled for December 4 and 5, before he departs for Moscow on the night of December 5. The visit is expected to strengthen strategic cooperation between India and Russia across defence, energy, and geopolitical matters.
