Eastern Rise: Modi Lands in Kolkata as Suvendu Adhikari Prepares for Historic Bengal Oath

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kolkata for the historic swearing-in ceremony of Suvendu Adhikari, who is set to become the first BJP Chief Minister of West Bengal. Adhikari personally reached the airport to receive the Prime Minister, marking a symbolic moment for the party as it prepares to formally assume power in the state for the first time. The atmosphere across Kolkata, especially around Brigade Parade Ground, turned celebratory with thousands of BJP workers gathering in saffron attire, chanting slogans and waving party flags. The venue was packed with supporters as giant stages, cultural displays, and Bengal-themed decorations reflected the scale of the political transition unfolding in the state. Senior NDA leaders, including Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, were already present in Kolkata, while chief ministers and deputy chief ministers from multiple NDA-ruled states continued arriving for the event. Tight security arrangements and VIP movement dominated central Kolkata ahead of the ceremony. Political observers are calling the moment one of the BJP’s most significant victories since 2014, highlighting the party’s expansion from a marginal force in Bengal to a dominant political power. Supporters described the development as the fulfillment of a long-standing ideological vision associated with Syama Prasad Mukherjee. The swearing-in ceremony is expected to send a strong national political message ahead of future elections, with BJP leaders projecting the Bengal victory as proof of the party’s growing acceptance across eastern India. Celebrations continued late into the day as supporters hailed the occasion as the beginning of a “new Bengal.”
