Delhi Police has clarified the reasons behind the late-night bulldozer action carried out in Old Delhi, following questions over the timing of the operation. Addressing the issue, DCP Nitin Valson stated that the decision to conduct the action at night was taken to avoid major disruption and maintain public safety. According to DCP Valson, the police and civic authorities had made prior efforts to ensure peace before the operation. Meetings were held with members of the Aman Committee to convey that the action was lawful and aimed at removing encroachments. Despite these efforts, stone-pelting incidents occurred due to a small group of people, which he described as “around 10 percent” who failed to understand the situation and attempted to disturb law and order. He further explained that daytime action was deliberately avoided as the area is close to ITO, where any operation during peak hours could have resulted in severe traffic congestion, potentially bringing large parts of the city to a standstill. The operation was carried out at night after the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) requested adequate security, which was duly provided. DCP Valson also confirmed that police personnel who sustained injuries during the incident are now stable and have been discharged from hospital. Based on their statements, an FIR has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
