Tension flared in the national capital late last night after a demolition drive carried out by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) with police support led to stone-pelting by a section of the crowd. Bulldozers were deployed to remove illegal encroachments, but as teams reached the site, they were met with resistance, forcing police to intervene. Videos circulating on social media show attempts to provoke unrest, raising questions about whether the violence was pre-planned. Delhi Police confirmed that an FIR has been registered and the matter is under investigation to determine if any deeper conspiracy was involved. According to officials, awareness campaigns were conducted in advance, including meetings with peace committees, which helped limit the gathering. However, a small group allegedly created disturbances and was pushed back by security forces. Authorities clarified that the demolition was conducted at night to avoid traffic congestion and economic disruption, as the area is close to major routes. MCD officials stated that encroachments spanning around 36 square feet were removed, including illegal constructions such as a diagnostic center, boundary walls, and a banquet hall. They also confirmed that the nearby mosque was not damaged and remains fully secure, with no valid documents presented to justify claims over the disputed land.
