Delhi Blaze: Massive Fire Breaks Out at SPA Building, Emergency Evacuation Saves Lives

A severe fire incident was reported at the School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) in Delhi, a premier institute operating under the Ministry of Education. The blaze reportedly originated on the second floor of the building, where faculty cabins and rooms are located, before quickly spreading to other areas, causing thick smoke to engulf the premises. Preliminary reports suggest that the fire may have started due to an air-conditioning unit, with suspected electrical sparking leading to ignition. Within minutes, smoke was seen spreading across multiple sections of the building, prompting immediate alerts to the Delhi Fire Services. Fire tenders were rushed to the site, and additional units were later deployed as the situation escalated. Rescue operations intensified with the use of a sky lift to access upper floors and contain the flames. Firefighters faced challenges due to dense smoke, structural layout, and spreading heat, which reportedly made initial containment difficult. Officials confirmed that faculty members, students, and other staff present inside the building were safely evacuated in time, preventing any reported casualties. However, concerns remain over possible damage to office spaces, academic records, and infrastructure within the institute. As the fire expanded, visuals showed flames reaching multiple rooms, raising concerns that the affected area may be larger than initially estimated. Strong winds and rising temperatures further complicated firefighting efforts. Authorities continue to investigate the exact cause of the blaze while containment operations remain underway. The incident has raised fresh concerns about fire safety protocols in institutional buildings, especially those housing critical academic infrastructure.
