A shocking incident took place in Shamli where a youth named Himanshu jumped into the Yamuna River. Moments before taking the step, he sent a suicide message to his friends and left his bag and tablet on the bridge. Video footage shows him hanging on the bridge for several minutes before plunging into the swelling waters. Rescue teams are working to trace him, but strong currents have complicated the operation.Meanwhile, the receding water level of the Yamuna has brought relief to residents in several parts of Delhi. Just days ago, the Monastery Market and nearby areas were completely submerged, with shops filled waist-deep in water. Entry into the market was only possible by boat at the peak of flooding. Now, as the water has started to withdraw, streets and shops that were once underwater are gradually clearing.Locals who had been battling rising waters for days are finally breathing easier. Many shopkeepers are assessing the damage as waterlogged goods are being removed. While the tragedy in Shamli has cast a shadow, the overall decline in the Yamuna’s level is offering much-needed comfort to residents in the capital.
