A major update has emerged from Delhi as social activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was on a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar for nearly 20 days, has been shifted to Safdarjung Hospital by Delhi Police. Wangchuk has been admitted to the emergency ward and is currently under medical supervision, with doctors closely monitoring his health condition. Following his hospitalisation, Wangchuk’s wife Geetanjali issued a statement requesting that no treatment or medical intervention be provided without their approval. She also shared a message on social media after Wangchuk was taken to the hospital. The decision to move Wangchuk came after concerns were raised over his declining health during the prolonged hunger strike. Reports suggest that he had lost more than 9 kilograms of weight during the fast, increasing concerns about possible impact on his vital body functions. Delhi Police officials stated that the action was taken following directions from the Delhi High Court, which had instructed authorities to ensure proper monitoring of Wangchuk’s health and take necessary steps if his condition posed a serious risk. At Safdarjung Hospital, a team of doctors is examining Wangchuk, and several medical tests are being conducted. Hospital sources have indicated that his condition is currently stable, while an official health bulletin from doctors is awaited. Meanwhile, the protest site at Jantar Mantar continues to witness activity, with several protesters raising slogans and expressing their concerns over the police action. Security personnel remain deployed at the location as authorities continue discussions with demonstrators.
