A fresh political setback appears to have emerged for the All India Trinamool Congress as the number of rebel MPs reportedly backing a separate parliamentary grouping has increased from 19 to 20. The latest development comes after senior TMC leader Sudip Bandyopadhyay reportedly held meetings with Amit Shah and Bhupender Yadav in New Delhi. Sudip Bandyopadhyay has long been regarded as one of the most prominent faces of the party and a close associate of Mamata Banerjee. For years, he represented the party in Parliament and played a key role in its national political outreach. His reported association with the rebel camp is being viewed as a significant political development. According to reports, the rebel MPs are not currently seeking to form a separate political party but are instead planning to request recognition as an independent parliamentary bloc in the Lok Sabha. Sources indicate that the group may approach Om Birla to seek separate seating arrangements and official recognition within the House. Political observers believe that if the rebel faction secures formal recognition, it could alter the balance of influence within the party’s parliamentary structure. Discussions are also underway regarding leadership positions within the proposed bloc, with Sudip Bandyopadhyay’s name being mentioned as a possible leader of the group. The development comes amid continuing turbulence within West Bengal politics, where internal disagreements and factional tensions have increasingly become public. The rebel camp is expected to hold further meetings in Delhi before formally presenting its case before the Lok Sabha Speaker. The coming days are likely to be crucial as both the party leadership and the dissident MPs prepare for the next phase of the political confrontation.
