A major controversy has erupted in Delhi over actress Poonam Pandey’s role in the upcoming Lav Kush Ramleela. The actress recently claimed she will be portraying Mandodari, the wife of Ravan, in the traditional Ramleela event. However, the Ramleela Committee President has now stated that they were unaware of her background when offering the role, suggesting they may not have cast her had they known earlier. The Sant Samaj (spiritual community) has expressed strong opposition to her involvement, citing concerns over maintaining religious and cultural sanctity. They argue that performers should adhere to a “maryadit” (dignified) conduct, especially when portraying mythological characters. With her performance scheduled between September 19 and 30, the committee has announced it will review the matter in detail and may reconsider its decision. Discussions are ongoing, and a final verdict is expected soon.
