Political uncertainty intensified in Karnataka after strong indications emerged that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah may step down amid growing speculation over a leadership transition within the ruling Congress government. Sources close to the party revealed that the Congress high command is actively discussing a possible change in leadership, with Deputy Chief Minister D. K. Shivakumar emerging as the leading contender for the top post. According to party insiders, Siddaramaiah has reportedly declined an offer to move to the Rajya Sabha and participate in national politics. Instead, he is said to have conveyed his desire to continue as an MLA for the remaining term of the current assembly. Sources indicate that he may travel to New Delhi later today to hold crucial discussions with senior Congress leadership regarding the future political roadmap in Karnataka. The political atmosphere in Bengaluru remained tense throughout the day as meetings and consultations continued behind closed doors. Siddaramaiah reportedly invited ministers for a breakfast meeting and is also believed to have sought time from Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, further intensifying speculation over a possible resignation. Meanwhile, supporters of DK Shivakumar celebrated in parts of Kanakapura after reports suggested he could soon be entrusted with the chief minister’s responsibility. At the same time, some Siddaramaiah loyalists appeared upset over the possible transition. Sources also suggest the Congress leadership may attempt a broad social balance in the new cabinet by appointing four deputy chief ministers representing Dalits, OBCs, minorities, and other communities. Several senior ministers may also be shifted to organisational responsibilities while younger faces could receive cabinet opportunities in a reshuffled government structure.
