Kanpur authorities have seized thousands of liters of counterfeit ghee in a major crackdown in the Panki area. The fake ghee was reportedly made using adulterated oils and essences, posing a serious health risk for consumers. Officials said the factory was operating under a false name, producing ghee that could be used both for cooking and religious purposes like puja rituals. The operation was carried out with the support of the food department’s surveillance team, who had been monitoring the facility for some time. Samples of the seized ghee are being sent to Lucknow for laboratory testing to determine the exact composition and level of adulteration. Authorities have promised strict action against those involved in producing and distributing counterfeit food products, citing public safety concerns. This discovery highlights ongoing efforts by the food department to crack down on illicit food manufacturing in the state, ensuring consumer safety and preventing the circulation of harmful products.
