Breaking News: India‑US Trade Deal Safe for Agriculture, Dairy; Govt Promises Full Transparency in Parliament

Government sources have clarified that the recently announced India‑US trade deal will have no impact on India’s agriculture or dairy sectors. According to officials, existing restrictions on American agricultural and dairy products will remain intact, ensuring the interests of Indian farmers are fully protected. This assurance comes amid speculation about potential concessions in the bilateral trade agreement. Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal is set to address Parliament today, providing a formal statement on the deal’s terms and conditions. Sources say the statement will outline the sectors covered, tariff reductions, and India’s stance on sensitive areas. Earlier, RS Leader JP Nadda confirmed that the government is ready for discussion and has nothing to hide regarding the agreement. BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal also defended the deal, saying it will benefit India’s manufacturing and export sectors, particularly textiles, pharmaceuticals, FMCG, and raw materials. He accused the opposition of spreading baseless allegations without facts, while asserting that Indian products will gain significant access to U.S. markets under lower tariffs. Officials emphasized that agriculture and dairy are off-limits in negotiations, and India remains committed to protecting domestic producers. The government reiterated that transparency, discussion, and safeguarding national interests remain top priorities.
