A major cash recovery has been reported from Surendranath College in Kolkata, where two bags filled with large amounts of currency were discovered inside the campus union room. According to reports, bundles of ₹500 and ₹1000 notes were found in a severely damaged condition, with some even affected by termites, suggesting they had been stored for a long period. The estimated cash amount is believed to be in the range of several lakhs, possibly around ₹40–50 lakh. During the inspection, police also reportedly found a room linked to a TMC-associated individual inside the college premises. Alcohol bottles were allegedly recovered from the roof of this room, prompting further investigation into unauthorized usage of campus space. Kolkata Police has launched a detailed probe to determine the origin of the cash, who stored it, and whether it is linked to illegal or unaccounted money. Authorities are also examining the college’s union room and related records. The discovery has raised serious questions about financial irregularities and misuse of institutional property.
