A controversy has erupted in Malihabad near Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, over a disputed historical site known as “Raja Kans’s fort.” The Pasai community claims the structure is not a tomb (mazar) but a historic fort linked to Raja Kans Pasai, a figure they consider important to their heritage. They are demanding recognition and protection of the site and opposing its use for religious prayers. Tensions have increased as members of the Muslim community reportedly gather at the site to offer Friday prayers (Jumma namaz), while Pasai community members strongly oppose this practice. The Pasai community has also written to the Chief Minister and formed a group to assert their claim over the land. The administration has increased security at the site to prevent any clash between the two groups. While no official ban on prayers has been imposed, police forces have been deployed as a precaution due to the sensitive situation. The dispute continues amid rising local tensions and competing historical and religious claims over the site.
