A major political development is unfolding in Kerala as the Indian National Congress is set to announce its Chief Minister candidate shortly during a press conference in New Delhi. The announcement comes after days of internal deliberations and growing speculation over who will lead the party in the state. According to party sources, the decision will be formally declared around 12 PM at the Congress headquarters in the presence of senior leaders and appointed observers. The key observers overseeing the process include Mukul Wasnik and Ajay Maken, along with AICC General Secretary Deepa Das Munshi. Three prominent names had emerged as frontrunners in the leadership race — K C Venugopal, V D Satheesan, and Ramesh Chennithala. Among them, KC Venugopal is reportedly leading the race, with internal consultations suggesting strong backing from a majority of legislators. Sources indicate that nearly 35 party legislators have expressed support in favor of Venugopal. Meanwhile, V D Satheesan, the Leader of the Opposition in Kerala, remains a strong contender due to his consistent grassroots presence and active role in opposing the ruling Left government. Ramesh Chennithala, another senior leader, also remains a significant figure in the internal discussions. The delay in finalizing the decision had triggered political speculation, with observers pointing to the challenge of balancing experience, organizational strength, and electoral strategy within the party’s state unit. According to sources, senior leadership, including Rahul Gandhi, held consultations with key stakeholders as part of the final decision-making process.
