In Saharanpur, a video has gone viral showing a conversation between a prisoner and a judge inside Deoband Jail. In this video, the prisoner claims that he was subjected to a “half encounter” by the police. According to the prisoner, he was being taken for a court hearing from Saharanpur when he was intercepted by police near Shamli. The police allegedly tortured him at the local station, including applying electric shocks, and tried to force a confession. When he refused, the prisoner alleges that he was taken to a nearby forest after sunset, laid on the ground, and shot in the leg from close range, staging a fake encounter. The prisoner has filed a petition in court against the encounter, and the viral video has triggered a political debate in Uttar Pradesh.
