In a shocking incident, Aam Aadmi Party leader Lucky Oberoi was shot dead in Punjab’s Jalandhar city on Sunday, triggering serious concerns over law and order in the state. The attack took place outside a gurdwara in the Model Town area, where two bike-borne assailants opened fire, discharging nearly ten rounds before fleeing the scene. According to initial reports, Oberoi sustained multiple gunshot wounds and succumbed to his injuries on the spot. The brazen daylight attack caused panic in the area, with locals gathering in large numbers soon after the firing. Visuals from the scene show the vehicle in which Oberoi was travelling, riddled with bullet marks. Police teams rushed to the spot immediately and cordoned off the area. Senior officials confirmed that multiple angles are being probed, including personal rivalry and possible involvement of organised crime networks. No group has claimed responsibility so far. The killing has raised sharp questions over Punjab Police’s ongoing anti-gangster drive, as a series of targeted killings continue to rock the state despite repeated assurances of strict action.
