Breaking News: 14 JNU Students Produced in Court After Protest Clashes

A major update has emerged in connection with the recent unrest at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). Fourteen students arrested by Delhi Police have been produced before the Patiala House Court. According to police submissions in court, over 300 individuals allegedly attempted to march toward India Gate without official permission. Authorities had advised the protesters to hold their demonstration within the campus. However, police claim that during efforts to stop the march using barricades, clashes broke out and several officers sustained injuries. Medical reports (MLCs) of injured personnel were also presented in court. Delhi Police has sought 14 days of judicial custody for the accused students. Notably, police have not requested custodial interrogation (police remand). Meanwhile, lawyers representing the students argued that the protest was peaceful and assured the court that the accused would cooperate with the investigation. They opposed the demand for judicial custody. The court is currently hearing arguments, and the final decision on judicial custody is awaited.
