A major political controversy has erupted in Uttar Pradesh after the police encounter of Asad, the main accused in the murder of Surya Chauhan in Ghaziabad. Surya Chauhan was allegedly stabbed to death on Bakrid after a dispute that reportedly began over a motorcycle-related issue. According to police, Asad lured Surya near his house and, along with his associates, attacked him with knives. CCTV footage of the incident later surfaced, drawing widespread attention. Following the murder, police launched a manhunt and announced a reward of ₹50,000 for Asad’s arrest. Police said they received information that Asad was planning to collect money from associates and flee the area. During a checking operation, officers attempted to stop him, but he allegedly opened fire on the police and tried to escape. In the ensuing exchange of fire, Asad was injured and later died in hospital. One police constable was also injured during the encounter. Three accused had already been arrested, while another accomplice reportedly escaped during the encounter and is being searched for. Surya’s family welcomed the police action and demanded strict action against the remaining accused. The encounter has sparked political reactions, with leaders debating law and order and the state’s policy toward criminals.
