Breaking: Delhi Govt Announces 2-Day Work From Home Rule for Offices, Pushes Virtual Meetings

The Government of Delhi has announced a major administrative decision introducing a two-day work-from-home policy every week for government offices in the national capital. The decision was announced by Rekha Gupta as part of a broader strategy aimed at reducing pressure on city infrastructure and encouraging flexible working arrangements. According to the announcement, employees in Delhi government departments will now be allowed to work remotely for two days each week. In addition, nearly 50 percent of official meetings are expected to be conducted virtually to minimize physical movement and improve administrative efficiency. The Delhi government has also issued an advisory to private companies, institutions, and large corporate offices, urging them to adopt a similar work-from-home system for at least two days weekly wherever possible. Officials said the Labour Department will monitor the implementation and coordinate with major employers across the city. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the government will directly engage with large organizations and institutions employing high numbers of workers to encourage smoother adoption of hybrid work models. Ministers and senior officers are expected to personally interact with company representatives regarding compliance and operational planning. The move is being seen as a significant shift toward flexible governance and workplace modernization in Delhi. Experts believe the policy could help reduce traffic congestion, lower pollution levels, and improve employee work-life balance if implemented effectively. The announcement has sparked discussions among businesses and employees, especially regarding productivity, digital infrastructure, and long-term workplace reforms in both public and private sectors. Further operational guidelines and implementation details are expected to be released soon by the Delhi government.
