BMC Elections 2026: Elderly and Women Voters Lead the Charge at Bandra Mount Mary Polling Booth

At the Bandra Mount Mary polling booth, the BMC elections witnessed a remarkable display of civic engagement as elderly voters and women led the turnout. Among them, an 83-year-old woman in a wheelchair exercised her right to vote, demonstrating the importance of participating in democracy regardless of age or mobility challenges. The booth, specially designated as a “Pink Booth”, emphasizes women’s empowerment, staffed primarily by female election officials and designed to encourage higher female participation. Observers noted that of every ten voters in line, eight were women, highlighting their crucial role in shaping the city’s future. Voters expressed concerns over local issues such as roads, water, electricity, and social welfare programs while waiting to cast their votes. Despite minor technical difficulties with voting machines, the enthusiasm among voters remained high, reflecting the city’s informed and proactive electorate. The turnout sends a strong message about women’s engagement in democracy, the resilience of senior citizens in exercising their rights, and the significance of local governance. These images of active participation serve as an inspiration for all citizens to vote.
