Bihar Politics: Prashant Kishor Explains Bankipur Win, BJP-RJD Vote Shift Debate

After his landmark victory in the Bankipur by-election, Prashant Kishor spoke about the factors behind the result and the political message emerging from the constituency. The Jan Suraaj leader said the outcome should not be linked to a single issue but should be viewed as the combined impact of multiple factors affecting voters. Discussing allegations and controversies surrounding the Bihar government, including student protests over recruitment issues and other political debates, Kishor said it would be difficult to establish a direct cause-and-effect relationship between these developments and the election result. He argued that voters ultimately chose an alternative political option based on their expectations. Kishor claimed that Jan Suraaj received support across the constituency, pointing out that the party won in a majority of polling booths in Bankipur. He rejected the idea that the victory belonged to only one particular community or voter group, stating that people from different backgrounds supported the party. On questions about whether the BJP should reconsider its leadership after the defeat, Kishor said one election result alone should not determine major political decisions. However, he compared electoral setbacks to failures in an examination, suggesting that parties need to analyse mistakes and improve their approach. Addressing slogans from supporters after the victory suggesting bigger political ambitions, Kishor clarified that Jan Suraaj’s immediate focus is governance and development rather than making unrealistic claims. He said the party wants to demonstrate through its work in Bankipur that politics beyond caste and identity can bring visible change.
