Big Legal Update: SC stresses no media trial, directs both sides to cooperate with investigation

The issue of women safety and rising cases of domestic violence and alleged dowry-related harassment has once again come into focus amid multiple disturbing incidents reported from across the country. These cases have raised serious concerns about the protection of women and the effectiveness of the justice system. In the Twisha Sharma case from Madhya Pradesh, the Supreme Court has concluded its hearing after taking suo motu cognizance. The court directed both the victim’s family and the accused side to refrain from making any public statements and to cooperate fully with the investigating agency instead. It emphasized that media trials should be avoided so that the investigation remains fair and unbiased. The Court also expressed confidence in the CBI’s ability to conduct a proper and impartial probe. Meanwhile, the case is also moving through lower courts, including the Madhya Pradesh High Court and district court, where hearings related to anticipatory bail and preservation of evidence such as CCTV footage and call records are underway. The case is now at a critical judicial stage, drawing widespread public attention.
