A major incident has been reported from Shamli district in Uttar Pradesh, where a notorious criminal carrying a reward of ₹50,000 was killed in a police encounter. The deceased has been identified as Rehan, a resident of Delhi, who had over 90 criminal cases registered against him across Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and Haryana. The encounter took place in the Kotwali Shamli area during routine police checking. When police tried to stop a suspicious motorcycle, the two riders opened fire on the police team. In retaliation, the police fired back, critically injuring Rehan, who later succumbed to his injuries. The second accused managed to escape from the spot. During the encounter, constable Sumit sustained bullet injuries. Police recovered a stolen motorcycle, two mobile phones, looted jewellery, and two pistols from the spot. A search operation has been launched to nab the absconding accused.
